Getting drivers to the right dock first time
In a distribution centre, wayfinding is a yard problem before it is a building problem. A driver arriving at a site with sixty doors needs one number, and getting it wrong costs a turn in a yard that was not designed for turning.
The usual failure is a paper map at the gatehouse and a security guard giving verbal directions, often across a language barrier and under time pressure from the queue behind. The driver commits to a route, discovers the door is on the far side, and adds ten minutes to a slot that was booked for fifteen.
Multiply that by the daily vehicle count and it becomes a real number, in dwell time, in missed slots and in yard congestion that slows every vehicle behind the one that went wrong.
A code at the gatehouse gives a driver the site plan in their own hands, with the door numbers marked. It works in the cab, in whatever language their phone is set to, without anyone having to explain it twice.
